The Central Bank of Chile has launched the 2026 edition of its Economía más cerca school competition, introducing several changes to the long-running initiative aimed at teaching economic and financial topics linked to the central bank’s role. The contest is now limited to first- and second-year secondary students in Chile, who must participate in teams of two to three students with a teacher and submit a video of up to one minute. For 2026, entries must address one of three themes: currency stability, inflation and its effect on the cost of living; monetary policy rate decisions and their impact on the financial system and credit flows; or money, its functions and the central bank’s role in issuing it. Each team must also submit a technical sheet explaining the video’s content. Videos will be assessed under a new four-dimension rubric with specific weightings, and after submissions close they will be reviewed blindly by Central Bank specialists who will not know the authors’ identities. Registration runs from July 9 to Sept. 30. Six teams will advance to the final, where they will present their videos to the jury and answer oral questions, with the winners to be chosen afterward and the award ceremony scheduled for December at the Central Bank.
