The European Central Bank has updated its government finance statistics compilation guide to align with the government finance statistics guideline adopted in 2025. The guide explains how national central banks, national statistical institutes and other compiling institutions should prepare annual data on government revenue, expenditure, deficits, debt and deficit-debt adjustments, as well as transactions involving European Union institutions and bodies. Compared with the January 2019 edition, the update restructures the reporting of transactions with EU institutions to reflect the classification of the European Financial Stability Facility and European Stability Mechanism as EU governmental institutions, the creation of the Next Generation EU budget and grants mainly provided through the Recovery and Resilience Facility. It also incorporates transactions involving the Single Resolution Board and Single Resolution Fund and provides revised guidance on the compilation of euro area and EU aggregates.
