Brazil's National Treasury, working with Brazil's Federal Revenue Service and Serpro, has implemented a new feature that automatically validates the PIX key used for income tax refunds when taxpayers choose to receive their refund via PIX, starting in 2026. The system checks during completion of the return whether the CPF entered is registered as a PIX key, helping prevent errors that were previously only detected at the payment stage and could delay refunds. The change is enabled by an integration between the Federal Revenue Service’s systems and the National Treasury’s systems, allowing secure access to the Central Bank’s PIX key database for automatic validation. If the CPF is not registered as a PIX key, the taxpayer receives an automatic alert at the time of filing, reducing rework and improving efficiency in executing public payments.
