The Central Bank of Taiwan reported a contraction in interbank call loan activity in September 2026, alongside rising commercial paper rates. The weighted average overnight call loan rate edged down by 0.005 percentage points to 0.817%, while commercial paper issuance increased despite lower secondary market turnover. Interbank call loan turnover fell 8.60% from August to TWD 2,029.7 billion, and the daily average outstanding balance declined 13.27% to TWD 446.4 billion. Domestic banks accounted for 50.72% of borrowing and 85.98% of lending. The preliminary average rate on one to 30-day commercial paper rose by 0.08 percentage points to 1.93% in the primary market and by 0.22 percentage points to 1.73% in the secondary market. Outstanding commercial paper increased 3.11% to TWD 4,232.1 billion at end-September, while commercial paper turnover decreased 2.40% to TWD 5,104.1 billion.
