The Bank of Italy has published an analysis of the 2026 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games’ impact on inbound tourism, based on its Survey on International Tourism. About 249,000 international overnight visitors came to Italy primarily for the Games in February, spending EUR 394 million. This represented 13.8% of all international overnight visitor spending that month and exceeded the EUR 376 million year-over-year increase in total tourism receipts. Olympics-related visitors spent an average of EUR 1,583 per person and EUR 308 per day, more than twice the corresponding levels for other overnight visitors. Lombardy received 71.4% of these visitors and 61.6% of their spending, while total tourism spending across Lombardy, Veneto and Trentino-Alto Adige rose 20.1% from February 2025. A further 50,000-plus visitors attended Games events despite not citing them as the main reason for their trip, accounting for EUR 93 million in spending.
