The Bank of Italy published national banking statistics for July 2026 showing that private sector lending, adjusted under the European System of Central Banks’ harmonized methodology, grew 3.5% year over year, up from 3.3% in June. Lending to nonfinancial corporations accelerated to 4.1% from 3.2%, while household lending growth eased to 2.6% from 2.7%. Private sector deposit growth slowed to 2.4% from 2.8%, and bond funding growth moderated to 5.6% from 6.0%. The annual percentage rate of charge on new home loans to households fell to 3.81% from 3.95%, while the share with an initial interest rate fixation period of up to one year rose to 29.0% from 19.9%. The rate on new consumer loans increased to 10.38% from 10.33%. Rates on new lending to nonfinancial corporations rose to 3.79% from 3.70%, and the average rate on outstanding deposits increased to 0.69% from 0.67%.
