The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) issued an alert to the public following a press release by China Construction Bank (Asia) Corporation Limited regarding fraudulent websites and internet banking login screens reported to the HKMA. A link to the bank’s press release is available on the HKMA website. The HKMA reiterated that banks will not send SMS messages or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and will not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or one-time passwords by phone, email or SMS. Anyone who provided personal information or conducted financial transactions via the fraudulent websites or login screens was advised to contact the bank and report the matter to the Police.
