The Bank of Cape Verde issued a public warning after becoming aware that an alleged firm named OPTCOIN has been offering services involving the receipt of repayable funds without first seeking and obtaining the required authorisation, which the Bank notes is legally mandatory because such services constitute financial activities. The Bank informed the public that OPTCOIN, reportedly operating from Rua Miguel Bombarda in Praia on Santiago Island, is not authorised by the Bank of Cape Verde to provide any type of financial activity and does not hold any registration with the central bank. The notice cites the Bank’s supervisory powers under its organic law and the laws governing the financial system and financial activities and institutions.
