The Central Bank of Estonia has published its 2027 programme of EUR 2 circulating commemorative coins and collector coins, including a new series dedicated to Estonia’s counties starting with a special-design EUR 2 coin for Hiiumaa. The 2027 plan also continues the Outstanding Estonian Women series with a silver collector coin marking the 150th anniversary of the birth of Seto folkloric singer Anne Vabarna, and extends the Resistance series with a EUR 2 commemorative coin dedicated to veterans of the Estonian Defence Forces. The counties series is intended to highlight the variety and cultural uniqueness of Estonia’s counties, with the first issue focusing on Hiiumaa as the country’s smallest county and an island with a long maritime history. The women’s series focuses on women who influenced Estonian society, with the Anne Vabarna coin recognising her role in preserving and promoting Seto culture through her songs. The Resistance series recognises groups and activities associated with resisting Estonia’s occupation and supporting independence, and the veterans coin is positioned as an honour for service and contribution to national security. Design competitions are to be held for the coin designs, followed by procurement to select mints before production begins. The central bank is also inviting public suggestions for 2028 collector and EUR 2 commemorative coins via its website until the end of August 2026, with the 2028 programme to be confirmed by the end of 2026 after review by an advisory committee and decision by the Executive Board.
