The Isle of Man Treasury issued an advisory notice that the United Kingdom’s Central African Republic (Sanctions) (EU Exit) Regulations 2020 will be amended from 6 January 2026, with the changes taking effect in the Island automatically under the Sanctions (Implementation of UK Sanctions) Regulations 2024 made under the Sanctions Act 2024. The amendments are intended to ensure compliance with United Nations obligations, including lifting the arms embargo against the Government of the Central African Republic while maintaining restrictions aimed at preventing other armed groups from accessing military goods or technology and related funding or financial services. The changes will be made by the Central African Republic (Sanctions) (EU Exit) (Amendment) Regulations 2025 and reflect United Nations Security Council Resolution 2745 (2024) and Resolution 2789 (2025). Regulations 21 to 28 of the 2020 Regulations are amended to reflect the updated prohibitions applicable to armed groups operating in the Central African Republic and associated individuals, Regulation 20 is amended to define those terms, and Regulation 4 is updated to reflect relevant references to all United Nations Security Council resolutions. The Treasury advised firms to review the amendments and relevant up-to-date legislation to remain compliant, and noted that failure to comply with or attempting to circumvent financial and trade sanctions legislation is a criminal offence.
