The U.S. Department of the Treasury has released the final results of the annual survey of foreign portfolio holdings of U.S. securities, showing total holdings of USD 35,349 billion as of June 30, 2025. The total comprised USD 19,860 billion in U.S. equities, USD 13,840 billion in U.S. long-term debt securities, and USD 1,649 billion in U.S. short-term debt securities. Compared with the June 30, 2024 survey, total foreign holdings rose from USD 30,881 billion. Equities increased from USD 16,878 billion, long-term debt from USD 12,688 billion, and short-term debt from USD 1,314 billion. Within long-term debt holdings at June 2025, USD 1,626 billion were asset-backed securities and USD 12,214 billion were non-ABS securities. The survey was conducted jointly by the U.S. Department of the Treasury, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System. The next annual survey will cover holdings at the end of June 2026, with preliminary results expected by February 26, 2027. Treasury also said the complementary annual survey of U.S. holdings of foreign securities at year-end 2025 is being processed, with preliminary results expected by August 31, 2026.
