The French Financial Markets Authority has appointed Rémi Bouchez as its Ombudsman, effective 1 December 2025, replacing Marielle Cohen-Branche after 14 years in the role. The Ombudsman is appointed by AMF Chair Marie-Anne Barbat-Layani for a three-year term, renewable. AMF mediation is described as an independent public service that is free, impartial and confidential, and that seeks to settle disputes amicably between retail investors and financial intermediaries. The Ombudsman is also referenced by the European Commission as a consumer mediator and contributes to improving professional practices through recommendations issued to financial market participants. Bouchez is an honorary section president at the French Council of State and previously chaired the Sanctions Committee of the Autorité de contrôle prudentiel et de résolution. He will be supported by the mediation unit’s legal teams within the Directorate for relations with savers and their protection.
