Bulgaria's Ministry of Finance published remarks by Finance Minister Georgi Klisurski at a briefing of the Coordination Centre at the Euro Mechanism, setting out the caretaker government’s priorities for introducing the euro. The approach centres on consumer protection and close coordination with regulators, with an explicit warning that the changeover should not be used to justify speculative price increases. Klisurski described the euro introduction as a gradual process lasting many months rather than a single overnight event, and linked it to building public confidence in the new currency. He called for regulators’ inspections to continue “in full force” while improving their quality, with checks and fines applied precisely where problems exist and avoiding unnecessary burdens. From the following week, all line deputy ministers will participate in meetings of the Coordination Centre to support its activities and increase the pace of work.
