Madagascar's Ministry of Economy and Finance has convened a regional “Assises for Economic Recovery” in Toamasina as part of a series of forums across provincial capitals to inform a national economic recovery plan and a renewed public-private partnership. More than 150 participants attended the Toamasina session. The process follows the official launch in Antananarivo on 19 January 2026 and is being rolled out in Antsiranana, Fianarantsoa, Toamasina, Toliara and Mahajanga, coordinated with the Ministry of Industrialization and Private Sector Development and the Economic Development Board of Madagascar, with support from the World Bank via the PIC project and the European Union. Topics discussed in Toamasina included corruption, taxes and customs, infrastructure including roads, access to finance, and improving the investment climate. Outputs from the regional workstreams are expected to feed into a national forum intended to consolidate a shared economic vision and formalise a National Economic Recovery Pact between the state and the private sector.
