The Central Bank of Iraq announced that it signed a memorandum of cooperation and coordination with the Central Bank of Tunisia in Baghdad to develop joint cooperation frameworks and support banking integration. The memorandum was signed during a meeting between Governor Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq and Central Bank of Tunisia Governor Fathi Zuhair Al-Nouri on the sidelines of the Central Bank of Iraq’s conference on the Iraqi National Strategy for Financial Inclusion 2025–2029. The memorandum focuses on cooperation in banking supervision and risk management aligned with international standards, promoting and expanding electronic payment systems to support financial inclusion, monitoring payment systems and sharing experience on developing their technical infrastructure, and exchanging information and expertise on financial innovation, cybersecurity, and combating money laundering and terrorist financing. The two sides also discussed opportunities to cooperate on upgrading banking-sector infrastructure, particularly the modernisation of electronic payment systems and financial services.
