The U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission announced it will hold a roundtable on March 4 to discuss private market valuations and “responsible retailization” as retail investor access to alternative investments becomes more common. The event will be hosted by the Division of Investment Management from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. ET at the SEC’s Washington, D.C. headquarters and streamed live on the SEC website. The two-panel agenda will examine (1) the migration of historically private-market asset classes into publicly offered vehicles and the resulting opportunities and challenges for managers, investors, and regulators, and (2) fund governance issues associated with delivering private-market exposure to retail investors, including practitioner perspectives on compliance with Rule 2a-5, asset-class-specific challenges, and governance best practices. SEC Division of Investment Management officials will moderate, with panelists drawn from industry and professional services. In-person attendance requires advance registration, while online viewing does not; the livestream, agenda, and panelist information will be made available on the event webpage.
