Italy's Ministry of Economy and Finance has published a draft regulation to update the public system for preventing fraud in consumer credit, with a focus on identity theft, and opened a public consultation. The proposal would replace the current 2014 framework to reflect newer personal data protection rules, including the European Union General Data Protection Regulation, and evolving technology-driven fraud typologies. The draft introduces an anti-money laundering purpose into the prevention system, sets out provisions on the processing of personal data, and reduces the amount payable for each request to verify the authenticity of data. Comments can be submitted until 7 August 2025. Contributions received will be published at the end of the consultation unless respondents explicitly request non-disclosure.
