Peru's Superintendency of Banking, Insurance and Private Pension Funds has made available a free “SOAT/CAT and Vehicle Insurance Report” that allows users to check a vehicle’s mandatory SOAT or CAT coverage and its vehicle insurance history, including whether it has recorded accidents and claims, to support due diligence when buying or selling used vehicles. The report provides data for the last five years, covering SOAT (Mandatory Traffic Accident Insurance) certificates, CAT (Traffic Accident Certificate) certificates and vehicle insurance policies, as well as the vehicle’s claims record, the issuing insurer or AFOCAT, policy or certificate number, coverage validity and additional relevant information. Access is provided via the SBS website by entering the vehicle’s licence plate number, and the SBS reiterated that Peru’s General Land Transport and Traffic Law requires all vehicles circulating in the country to carry SOAT or CAT coverage for injuries or death to occupants and third parties arising from traffic accidents.
