Dominican Republic's Pensions Superintendency (SIPEN) issued Circular 135-25 requiring pension fund administrators (AFPs) to stop requiring an Acta Policial or other document from a competent authority when processing benefits linked to a non-natural death, to facilitate access for families of affiliates and pensioners who died in Jet Set. The circular is effective immediately across all AFPs. SIPEN reiterated that survivors’ pension beneficiaries include a spouse or life partner; children under 18; children aged 18 to 21 who are single and studying; children of any age with a disability; and children in gestation at the time of the affiliate’s death. If the affiliate had no spouse or partner and no children, the accumulated balance in the individual capitalization account is returned to legal heirs, noting that pension inheritances are exempt from inheritance taxes. Families can also use SIPEN’s online “Deceased Affiliate Consultation” service to check which pension plan the deceased was affiliated with and access the plan’s contact information.
