The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has confirmed the appointment of Professor Philip Vermeulen as a full member of its governing Board, with a five-year term running from 10 February 2025 to 31 January 2030. Vermeulen was appointed by the Governor-General on the recommendation of the Minister of Finance following a public appointment process run by Te Tai Ohanga – The Treasury. He previously joined the Board in June as a “Future Director”, participating as an observer. He is Professor of Economics at the University of Canterbury and has over 20 years’ experience at the European Central Bank, alongside academic roles including as a Research Associate at the Centre for Applied Macroeconomic Analysis at Australian National University.
