The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) published an update on its coordination with the insurance industry to provide emergency assistance and keep insurance claims services operating amid severe flooding across several southern provinces, with Songkhla and the Hat Yai economic area reported as the hardest hit. More than 320,887 households were affected and insurers had received notifications for 1,258 damaged vehicles and over 506 property and other loss reports. Measures include advising policyholders to move assets to higher ground, deploying tow trucks and vehicle carriers to move cars out of flood zones, and reinforcing local claims operations with staff and resources from other areas. The OIC’s Insurance Center for Disaster Management and Co-operation is coordinating additional support such as arranging vehicle storage points, conducting loss surveys, and distributing relief supplies, while noting that losses are expected to increase given the severity of the event. With the OIC Songkhla office closed due to flooding, the regulator has activated backup service centres at its provincial offices in Phatthalung, Nakhon Si Thammarat, Trang, Yala and Narathiwat and directed affected customers to use alternative OIC and insurer service channels.
