Ecuador's Superintendency of Banks reported that Superintendent Roberto Romero von Buchwald participated in the III Ibero-American Forum on Labour Formalisation in Ibero-America, where he highlighted the financial system’s role in inclusion and development and argued for incentives and regulatory adjustments in response to changing labour-market dynamics. The forum, held on 3–4 April under the theme of social security system reforms to expand affiliation and benefits coverage, brought together authorities, multilateral organisations and experts to discuss policies and structural challenges related to labour informality. Romero noted that the Superintendency of Banks not only supervises the financial system but also the national social security system, and said informality limits opportunities and undermines rights; he also emphasised the need for a financial sector that can attract domestic and international resources and channel them into productive credit and decent employment opportunities. Alongside his participation, he held bilateral meetings with regional counterparts, including Dominican Republic superintendent Alejandro Fernández Whipple, in the context of promoting more coordinated, regionally oriented supervision focused on employment formalisation and financial inclusion.
