The Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) published a package of ocean-focused materials, including final sector guidance for the fishing and the marine transportation and cruise lines industries and a discussion paper on how to measure ocean-related dependencies, impacts, risks and opportunities under the TNFD framework. The fishing guidance, developed through engagement with over 100 organisations across fishing and the marine aquarium trade value chains, sets out practical steps to identify, assess and manage nature-related issues such as reliance on healthy fish populations and exposure to illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing. It builds on industry certification schemes and aligns with the Science Based Targets Network’s ocean targets for seafood, and includes an interoperability table co-developed with the Marine Stewardship Council to help organisations with MSC-certified fisheries map existing certification data to TNFD metrics. The marine transportation and cruise lines guidance, developed with industry stakeholders and experts, focuses on identifying and managing interactions with ecologically sensitive areas such as marine protected areas and migratory corridors for marine mammals, and highlights critical dependencies including cruise lines’ reliance on coral reef ecosystems. To support further consultation on ocean measurement and metrics, the TNFD launched an ocean-related issues survey open until 1 October 2025 and plans stakeholder engagement at the Blue Economy & Finance Forum and the UN Ocean Conference.
