The Central Bank of Cuba reported that its vice president, Alberto Javier Quiñones Betancourt, met with members of the micro, small and medium-sized enterprise MEC S.UR.L. in Playa, Havana, as the bank moves forward with enabling the Caja Extra service using new economic actors. The initiative is being used to bring the current month’s social security payments to retirees and pensioners at their homes in the municipality. The arrangement forms part of a Central Bank of Cuba pilot programme implemented with the National Social Security Institute (INASS) and other economic actors. It will initially operate in selected Havana territories and population groups, with the stated aims of bringing banking services closer to customers’ residences and easing in-branch footfall; the bank indicated the option will continue to be developed over the coming months.
