The Jamaica Financial Services Commission has reminded overseas loss adjusters that they must register under the Insurance Act, 2001 before carrying on or purporting to carry on loss adjusting business in Jamaica, and set out a tailored temporary registration option for catastrophe-related work. Temporary Overseas Loss Adjusters can be registered for up to three months and may renew by giving 14 days’ notice before expiry, with the renewal process determined at the Commission’s discretion. The temporary registration is limited to claims and losses arising from Hurricane Melissa, which occurred on October 28, 2025, and registrants remain subject to all provisions, duties and obligations under Jamaica’s Insurance Act and Regulations, including presenting their registration certificate for inspection during business dealings. The Commission also advised market participants to ensure adjusters, including Temporary Overseas Loss Adjusters, are registered before engaging them, and noted it does not provide assurances regarding compliance with other laws.
