The Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka has extended the deadline for applications for accreditation as a Registered and Accredited Shariah Scholar, enabling qualified scholars to certify Shariah compliance of Islamic capital market products before they are published or listed in Sri Lanka. The revised submission deadline is 20 April 2026. Accredited Shariah Scholars are recognised under the Securities and Exchange Commission of Sri Lanka Act, No. 19 of 2021 as “Supplementary Service Providers”. The SEC highlighted that it completed an evaluation in 2024, including in-person interviews, and selected six professionals under the applicable guidelines, and has since amended the guidelines to expand the list and attract a broader mix of local and international applicants. Required application materials include a curriculum vitae (CV) and a signed affidavit in the format specified on the SEC website. Shortlisted applicants will be contacted for a preliminary interview as part of the selection process.
