Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) launched a proactive insurance promotion programme in Krabi aimed at strengthening risk management for the local tourism economy and embedding insurance use among operators and travellers as part of a “sustainable tourism with insurance” initiative. The OIC framed the initiative around the province’s exposure to natural hazards and travel-related accidents across transport and tourism services, citing tourism revenue of THB 77,917m from January to September 2025 and more than 4.7 million visitors. It highlighted marine transport risks in particular, noting passenger boat services of 204,179 trips per year and 4,226,913 passengers per year, and convened a multi-agency discussion on safety standards and insurance as a tool to support confidence in tourism services. The event also included a CSR activity distributing life jackets to local boat operator groups and a “five checks” safety campaign that included verifying legally required passenger insurance coverage for death, injury and medical expenses.
