The Bank of France, alongside France’s Ministry of the Economy and Finance, the French Banking Federation and the Observatory for the Security of Payment Means, has renewed its public warning on payment fraud and launched a national awareness campaign aimed at common scams and basic security reflexes. Recent OSMP statistics show manipulation fraud (card payments involving strong customer authentication and fraudulent transfers initiated via online banking) fell by 2% in value in the first half of 2024 versus the first half of 2023, to EUR 179 million. The release nevertheless highlights persistent risks from scams involving fake advisers or financial websites, and emerging threats linked to generative artificial intelligence. The French Banking Federation’s 2025 barometer (with Harris Interactive) indicates exposure remains high but attempted scams reported by the public declined for the first time: 54% report having faced an attempt to steal banking data (down 3 percentage points versus 2024) and one in ten report having been a victim. The prevention campaign starts this weekend ahead of the summer period and will run across national radio, daily press and digital channels, centred on the message never to disclose banking codes, passwords or identifiers.
