The U.S. Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs held a full committee hearing to consider a slate of presidential nominations spanning the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the Department of the Treasury, and the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve System, including Dr. Stephen Miran for a Federal Reserve Governor role. The nominations under consideration were Ben Hobbs for HUD Assistant Secretary for Public and Indian Housing, Ronnie Kurtz for HUD Assistant Secretary for Community Planning and Development, Christopher Pilkerton for Treasury Assistant Secretary for Investment Security, and Jonathan Burke for Treasury Assistant Secretary for Terrorist Financing. Chairman Tim Scott linked the HUD nominees’ prospective work to implementing the ROAD to Housing Act if enacted, and described Pilkerton’s remit as leading the Committee on Foreign Investment in the United States and Treasury’s outbound investment screening efforts, while characterising Burke’s role as focused on anti-financial crime and protecting the U.S. economy from illicit finance.
