The Financial Transactions and Reports Analysis Centre of Canada (FINTRAC) will establish a dedicated liaison function to strengthen operational efforts against extortion by accelerating the production and sharing of tactical financial intelligence with select law enforcement agencies. The approach is backed by surge operational resources and is intended to support faster information exchange and the identification of emerging money laundering indicators linked to extortion. Financial Intelligence Liaison Officers will provide regular, onsite engagement with priority law enforcement agencies in targeted areas including British Columbia, Alberta and Ontario, combining case-focused outreach with guidance on how police can best leverage FINTRAC’s capabilities. Analytical support will come from reassigned intelligence officers tasked with strategic analysis of disclosures and reporting, identification of extortion-related indicators, faster development of financial intelligence disclosures involving extortion proceeds, and regular communication of trends and emerging threats, alongside domestic and international engagement and monitoring of operational results.
