National Bank of Moldova Governor Anca Dragu reviewed Moldova’s financial integration and investment conditions at the U.S.-Romania Regional Economic Forum in Iași, reporting approximately EUR 16.4 million in savings for households and businesses during the first year of operational connection to the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA). This compares with more than EUR 13 million reported for the first 10 months. SEPA now handles over 81% of cross-border euro transfers to and from Moldova. The national instant payment system, MIA, has exceeded 1.1 million users, with transaction value surpassing MDL 28.5 billion. Dragu linked Moldova’s investment appeal to closer European financial integration, a banking sector predominantly owned by Western capital and a regulatory framework aligned with European Union standards. She highlighted the recent opening of the Internal Market and Competitiveness and Inclusive Growth clusters in EU accession negotiations. On capital market access, she pointed to the recent licensing of the International Stock Exchange of Moldova, whose largest shareholder is the Bucharest Stock Exchange. The exchange is expected to facilitate financing for local companies and connect Moldova’s capital market with regional and European financial markets.
