The National Bank of the Republic of Tajikistan reported discussions with the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) on sustainable finance and expanding businesses’ access to funding. Chairman Firdavs Tolibzoda met an EBRD delegation led by Vice President Matteo Patrone. The talks examined risk sharing mechanisms as a means of expanding lending and improving access to financing with long maturities, particularly for small and medium enterprises. Such mechanisms could support investment projects and domestic production. Other priorities included improving the insurance system, raising financial literacy and supporting green projects. Discussions also addressed the application of environmental, social and corporate governance principles in financial institutions, alongside stronger internal controls, risk management and compliance with international requirements. These themes overlap with the institutions’ May 2026 discussions on insurance market development, risk management and sustainable finance, while the latest meeting gave explicit attention to risk sharing as a means of improving business financing.
