The Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority (FI) is inviting firms and other relevant participants to join a reference group for its next Innovation Compass guidance project, focused on tokenized money and payments using distributed ledger technology (DLT). The choice responds to industry requests for regulatory clarification. It builds on the Innovation Compass approach introduced in December 2025, which uses structured industry dialogue to identify and address guidance needs arising from financial innovation. The reference group will determine the project’s precise scope. Potential topics include the classification of different forms of tokenized money and applicable rules, as well as interoperability with existing payment and settlement systems. Relevant uses include cross-border payments and the trading and settlement of tokenized financial instruments such as shares and bonds. Depending on the application, discussions could cover tokenized bank money, electronic money tokens under the EU’s Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA), or central bank money. FI seeks participants with experience or concrete plans involving tokenized money or DLT payment solutions, with expressions of interest due by Nov. 22, 2026. The group will examine regulatory and practical challenges over four to five workshops, limited to matters within FI’s remit.
