The Egmont Group has highlighted the recognition Taiwan’s financial intelligence unit (FIU) received earlier in 2026 for a case disrupting a transnational money laundering network linked to scam compounds, fraud, human trafficking and illegal gambling. The case illustrates how financial intelligence and international cooperation help tackle complex financial crime across borders. The 2026 Best Egmont Case Award (BECA) competition received 21 cases from 14 FIUs, with Taiwan and India selected as finalists. The focus on cooperation echoes the group’s discussions at a financial crime workshop in Canada, which emphasized timely intelligence sharing among FIUs to disrupt criminal networks.
