The Middle East and North Africa Financial Action Task Force (MENAFATF), with the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), launched a regional workshop on criminal asset tracing, freezing, and confiscation in Rabat, Morocco, hosted by the Kingdom of Morocco through the National Financial Intelligence Authority. Running from 16–18 June 2025, the programme convenes financial intelligence units, judicial and law enforcement authorities, supervisors, customs and cross-border asset tracing agencies from MENAFATF member countries, alongside international experts including the US Treasury and the MENA Asset Recovery Inter-Agency Network (MENA-ARIN). The workshop focuses on strengthening implementation of confiscation procedures, including non-conviction-based confiscation, in line with Financial Action Task Force standards, promoting interagency cooperation, and exploring investigative tools such as artificial intelligence and big data analytics through practical exercises, interactive discussions, and country presentations on national challenges and experiences.
