Central Bank of the Republic of Kosovo Deputy Governor Dardan Fusha outlined priorities for bringing instant payments into operation and developing additional services during a regional payments conference in Tirana. He described the TIPS Clone instant payment system and Kosovo’s prospective participation in the Single Euro Payments Area (SEPA) as complementary initiatives aimed at making payments faster, safer and more affordable for consumers and businesses. The remarks come as Kosovo completes final preparations to submit its SEPA application to the European Payments Council. Priorities include gradually introducing payments using phone numbers or other identifiers, QR codes, Request to Pay and advance verification of beneficiaries. Fusha emphasized harmonized regional standards and rules as the basis for interoperability and the future development of payments across borders. He also called for a proportionate regulatory framework and inclusive governance that enable fair competition between banks and other payment service providers while maintaining safety and consumer protection.
