The Central Bank of Barbados has announced that AffinityPlus Credit Union members can now link their accounts to the BiMPay Wallet, making it available to customers of all nine participating institutions, comprising six commercial banks and three credit unions. AffinityPlus was already connected to the underlying payment rail. Its introduction of Wallet access follows Scotiabank Barbados on October 5, when the Wallet became available through all six commercial banks. The Wallet links to customers’ existing bank or credit union accounts and enables payments between participating institutions within seconds, 24 hours a day, including weekends and public holidays. Users can pay using a mobile number or another registered alias, scan QR codes, and send or respond to requests to pay. Before authorization, the Wallet displays the recipient’s name so users can check whom they are paying. Sending and receiving payments through BiMPay is free for individuals.
