The Brazilian Superintendence of Private Insurance (SUSEP), together with Brazil’s Ministry of Finance, co-organised an online seminar on 15–16 April under the BRICS Finance Track focused on the “Global (Re)Insurance Landscape”. The event convened government authorities, regulators and market participants from BRICS countries to discuss current global (re)insurance trends, challenges and opportunities and to gather member views on the market outlook and possible bilateral and multilateral alternatives. SUSEP participants included Superintendent Alessandro Octaviani, Directors Jessica Bastos, Júlia Lins and Carlos Queiroz, technical analyst Paulo Roberto Miller and other staff working on the topic. Opening remarks highlighted reinsurance’s role in supporting sustainable growth, including by attracting investment, enabling long-term planning and mitigating social and economic vulnerabilities, and pointed to potential benefits from cooperation among BRICS economies. The agenda covered global market developments including technology and innovation, climate change and sustainability, and cyber risks and data protection, alongside regulatory topics such as international standards, regulatory harmonisation, and supervisory frameworks and approaches, as well as technical issues including risk assessment and management and collateralisation.
