Thailand’s Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) reported that the Central Administrative Court has dismissed an application to temporarily suspend enforcement of the registrar’s order underpinning motor insurance policies that can name up to five drivers, leaving the measure in effect. The court found the order did not yet affect the rights and freedoms of the public because policyholders can still choose between named-driver and unnamed-driver motor insurance. The underlying registrar’s order expanded the maximum number of named drivers to five from two and approved the premium rate schedules for both product types for 31 insurance companies. The OIC also framed the measure as optional and intended to allow policyholders with good driving behaviour to access higher premium discounts, and noted that policies retain coverage in certain cases where someone not named drives the vehicle, subject to the policy terms and conditions.
