The Central Bank of Egypt announced that its Governor, Hassan Abdalla, in his capacity as Egypt’s Governor to the African Development Bank Group, led Egypt’s delegation to the African Development Bank Group’s annual meetings in Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. He participated in the official opening ceremony alongside African heads of state and other continental leaders. The delegation included Central Bank of Egypt Deputy Governor Tarek ElKholy and attended the 60th Annual Meetings of the African Development Bank’s Board of Governors and the 51st Meeting of the Board of Governors of the African Development Fund, held under the theme “Making Africa’s Capital Work Better for Africa’s Development.” Abdalla linked current development challenges to geopolitical tensions and global trade wars, citing higher borrowing costs, reduced investment flows and exchange rate volatility, and noted that Egypt’s cooperation portfolio with the African Development Bank has reached approximately USD 8.2 billion since 1974 across sectors including energy, transportation, agriculture, water and irrigation, and the financial sector. The meetings ran from 26 to 30 May and included sessions on youth and human capital, including a Governors’ panel on positioning Africa’s youth to drive inclusive, resilient and sustainable development, and were expected to include the election of the African Development Bank’s next President for a five-year term.
