The European Commission published details of EU support for a JOD 10 million (USD 14.1 million) European Bank for Reconstruction and Development loan to Aqaba Digital Hub in Jordan, aimed at expanding the group's existing data centre. The package also includes technical assistance for the launch of the Aqaba Digital Academy and grant support for green technology investments. The loan will fund fit-out works at the existing site, settlement of supplier commitments and construction of a second hall at what the release describes as Jordan's largest Tier 3 carrier-neutral data centre. Capital Bank of Jordan is acting as a parallel lender. EU backing is provided through a first-loss guarantee under the European Fund for Sustainable Development Plus Digital Transformation Platform, while the EBRD's Finance and Technology Transfer Centre for Climate Change will provide a complementary grant. The academy support is intended to deliver information and communications technology and cybersecurity training, with a focus on women and young people.
