The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) met the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Transport to agree guidelines for insurance assistance and reimbursement payments for victims and heirs affected by a high-speed train construction crane that fell onto a passenger train. The discussions monitored progress on measures for 161 victims, including 30 deaths and 69 injured people, with 15 still receiving hospital treatment. Payments referenced included THB 340,000 from the State Railway of Thailand, THB 150,000 from Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, and THB 1,000,000 each from Dhipaya Insurance Public Company Limited, Bangkok Insurance Public Company Limited and Indra Insurance Public Company Limited under Contractor All Risks cover, alongside a medical-expense coverage limit of more than THB 583 million for the injured. The OIC said it is supervising the payment of remedies and insurance benefits in accordance with the law, including checks of identity documentation, and noted that where heirs cannot provide complete evidence insurers will deposit funds with the court. The OIC also flagged further coordination with relevant agencies and work to study approaches to packaging insurance for rail travel so passengers can more clearly understand compensation rights in future accidents.
