The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) published its quarterly statistics on payment cards issued in Hong Kong for the second quarter of 2025, covering credit and debit card activity under the schemes of eight payment card scheme operators. The release shows continued growth in credit cards in circulation and higher transaction volumes, alongside a quarter-on-quarter decline in the value of both credit and debit card transactions. By end-Q2 2025, credit cards in circulation reached 22.8 million, up 4.2% from the previous quarter and 14.6% year on year.
