The Uganda Capital Markets Authority, in partnership with the Uganda Securities Exchange, hosted the East Africa Capital Markets Conference (EACMC 2025) in Kampala under the theme of digital transformation and sustainable finance. Alongside the East African Securities Exchanges Association, the conference launch included the East African Exchanges 20 Share Index, positioned as a regional initiative to enhance market visibility, promote cross-listing, and deepen integration among East African securities exchanges. Conference discussions focused on regional integration, technology-enabled market access, sustainable finance, and ESG and sustainability reporting. The Capital Markets Authority highlighted its recently launched regulatory sandbox to test new products under adaptive regulation, and reported that its Deal Flow Facility with FSD Uganda and the European Union has matched 52 companies with investors for potential deals exceeding USD 30 million, with four companies already closing USD 6.1 million in funding. The Uganda Securities Exchange pointed to the USE Easy portal and digital account opening through MTN and Airtel as examples of technology expanding inclusion, while Uganda’s finance ministry underscored capital markets’ role in mobilising long-term finance for national development priorities.
