The Thailand Office of Insurance Commission (OIC) has coordinated with the insurance sector to speed up damage inspections and claims handling following a strong earthquake centred in Myanmar that caused tremors across several parts of Thailand, including Bangkok, and led to widespread insured property damage. The OIC also urged policyholders to prepare key information and evidence to help insurers process claims more quickly. Coordination has involved relevant bodies including the Thai non-life loss adjuster and surveyor associations, with a request for all loss adjuster firms to be ready to deploy and begin inspections immediately upon assignment by non-life insurers. Claims notifications have been received in large numbers across multiple areas, with inspections under way wherever access is possible, and reported damage largely involving condominiums and office buildings showing cracking from vibration. To reduce duplication and improve efficiency, the OIC and industry have also coordinated data on condominium insurance so insurers can allocate loss adjusters across affected areas more effectively; assessments are being conducted by OIC-licensed loss adjusters, with 85 licensed loss adjuster companies currently operating. To support faster assessment and settlement, the OIC recommended that policyholders review coverage conditions across all affected property policies, document damage in detail with photographs, notify their insurer promptly, prepare supporting documents such as quotations and receipts, and facilitate on-site inspections by identifying damaged areas and providing complete information. It also cautioned against fraudsters claiming to assist with earthquake-related insurance claims and said it remains available to advise and assist affected people as the situation evolves.
