The HKMA reminded the public that banks do not send SMS or emails with embedded hyperlinks directing customers to bank websites to carry out transactions, and do not request sensitive personal information such as login passwords or One-Time Passwords by phone, email or SMS, including via embedded links. Anyone who has provided personal information or conducted transactions via the fraudulent sites or login screens is advised to contact the bank using the contact details in The Bank of East Asia’s press release and report the matter to the Hong Kong Police Force’s Crime Wing Information Centre.
