The European Central Bank published its weekly balance sheet statement, showing total assets and liabilities of EUR 6,152,427 million, down EUR 5,241 million from the previous week due to transactions. The largest asset-side movement was a EUR 10,609 million decline in securities of euro area residents denominated in euro, driven by a EUR 11,304 million fall in securities held for monetary policy purposes. On the asset side, lending to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations increased by EUR 2,190 million to EUR 22,052 million, including EUR 1,683 million higher main refinancing operations (EUR 11,530 million) and a EUR 508 million rise in the marginal lending facility (EUR 709 million). Gold and gold receivables stood at EUR 1,128,571 million, while claims on non-euro area residents denominated in foreign currency were EUR 497,365 million. On the liability side, liabilities to euro area credit institutions related to monetary policy operations fell by EUR 11,367 million to EUR 2,666,478 million, mainly reflecting a EUR 9,629 million decrease in the deposit facility (EUR 2,499,987 million); banknotes in circulation were EUR 1,591,449 million.
