Securities Commission Malaysia and the Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales have initiated a collaboration through a Letter of Intent focused on capacity-building for sustainability-related regulation, including specialised training on climate-related financial disclosures and a programme leading to Sustainability Certifications. The collaboration includes training on IFRS S1 and IFRS S2 standards, Scope 3 emissions reporting and measurement challenges, and the implications of global climate-related regimes such as the Carbon Border Adjustment Mechanism and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive, alongside the use of ICAEW training films. As part of the initiative, ICAEW delivered a workshop on 14 February 2025 at the ASEAN Capital Markets Forum Chairs Meeting in Penang, covering sustainability disclosure requirements, regulatory best practices, and the role of regulators in sustainability policy and stakeholder engagement. The initiative was positioned against Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship for 2025 and the need for regulators to align with evolving global ESG standards.
