The Central Africa Anti-Money Laundering Action Group (GABAC) held a working visit with the Bank of Central African States (BEAC) as part of outreach on GABAC’s 2025–2027 strategic action plan, focused on strengthening the regional institutional framework, expanding technical assistance to member states and preparing for the third cycle of Financial Action Task Force (FATF) evaluations. Discussions also covered progress on the International Cooperation Review Group (ICRG) action plan for Cameroon and the Democratic Republic of the Congo, with the stated objective of enabling their rapid removal from the FATF grey list. Another focus was reinforcing the budgetary and operational autonomy of Financial Intelligence Units, with a note on sustainable financing to be submitted to the Ministerial Committee of the Central African Monetary Union (UMAC) and supported by expected contributions from community resources and technical and financial partners. GABAC’s Permanent Secretary welcomed BEAC’s progress in implementing the CEMAC community anti-money laundering texts adopted on 20 December 2024 and announced the forthcoming publication of revised regulations on GABAC’s organisation and internal functioning, as well as its internal rules, aimed at harmonising supervisory practices across the sub-region.
