The Egypt Financial Regulatory Authority, through its Supervisory and Oversight Committee for Carbon Emission Reduction Units, approved the registration of four new emissions-reduction projects in its database to enable the issuance of carbon reduction certificates for trading on Egypt’s voluntary carbon market. The committee also gave preliminary approval to register Spain’s Applus as a verification and validation body for emissions-reduction projects. The newly registered projects include Abu Minqar Solar PV in New Valley Governorate and soil organic enhancement for climate change mitigation (SOC) projects in the oases and Minya, with Lotus for Agricultural Development and Investment, Value Network Venture, and Mars for selling and distributing energy acting as project developers. Following the latest registrations, the FRA database includes 34 registered voluntary emissions-reduction projects, with 170,000 certificates available for trading, and around six domestic and foreign verification and validation bodies registered. Certificates for the newly registered projects are expected to be issued and made tradable after the completion of verification and validation procedures, while Applus’s inclusion remains subject to finalisation after its presentation on its operating model and markets.
